The origin of Mussakas is not known exactly. Some people claim that mussakas has an Arabic origin and it consists lamp and eggplants. According to research moussakas became part of the urban Greek kitchen in the early days of the 20th Century, after Nicholas Tselementes’s cookbook, known as the Greek “cooking bible,” came out. After the circulation of his book and the recipe that it had for Moussakas, the "greek moussakas" became the most famous version of this dish.
Mussakas is ground meat with béchamel, eggplants and potatoes in the oven.
