Finnish food culture has gotten influence from Sweden and Russian. Finland wasn’t very rich until that’s why people tried to grow everything during the short summer and plant food that would survive the whole winter. That’s why potato is one of the main ingredients even nowadays in the food culture.
Local and organic food has always been important in Finland, even before the trend for it came to the world. Even nowadays people pick their own berries and mushrooms from the forests’ and fish from rivers or the lake. For fishing you need a license, but you can pick berries and mushrooms anywhere you want. In Finnish food they don’t use a lot of fancy ingredients because of the history.
