Gyros the Greek national fast food

Source; hovoli.eu

Gyros is the national fast food of Greeks. It is consisted of pita or flatbread, which includes the pork meat or gyros, French fries, tomato, onion and yogurt or tzatziki. The word “gyro” means “turn” in Greek and it describes the procedure of the meat’s cooking. It is the perfect option for all the people who want to fill their stomachs and pay usually only 3 euros.

Even though it is said to be the national fast food of Greece, its origins go back in Turkey, where the technique of cutting the meat so thin is called Kebab. In 1922 with the exchange of populations between Turkey and Greece, the refugees brought the recipe in the country.

Since then, it has spread out to the whole country and also in other countries of the world by Greek people. Tourists love to taste it in small Gyros restaurants throughout the whole country.
