Finnish coffee culture

Finnish people consume the most coffee in the world. They drink 10 kg per person every year.

Most of the coffee in Finland is brewed with a filter coffee machine. Other types of coffee is not as popular for example espresso is still quite a new thing and it is mostly consumed in coffee houses, not at home.

Finnish people start their day with a cup of coffee and then consume it regularly throughout the day. Fun fact: Finland is the only country in the world where it is stated in some collective labor agreements that there should be two 15-minute coffee breaks during the workday.

If Finnish people visit each other’s homes, it’s a custom that they serve coffee to each other. Also, in every celebration there’s coffee; weddings, birthdays, funerals and many other.
